Our office was once again buzzing with web development professionals as TampereJS held its November event, bringing together eager developers and experts. This time, the topics focused on Brisa, a new web framework, and managing browser features within code.

Monad’s own Sander Kallio kicked off the evening with a talk titled “Yet Another React Killer? (Brisa),” where he explored the potential of Brisa compared to React. His presentation highlighted how Brisa can combine server and client-side components while delivering speed and performance with minimal JavaScript. Kallio underscored the practical benefits that frameworks like Brisa bring to modern web development. He also reminds us that Brisa is still very much in the development stage and not yet suitable for production code.

The second talk of the evening featured Fotis Papadogeorgopoulos, who discussed handling browser bugs and feature detection in his presentation, “Browser Bugs, Feature Detection, and You: Tips for Making Forward-Looking Frontends.” He provided tips on maintaining and preparing codebases for updates in browser features, including feature detection and code forking. Papadogeorgopoulos emphasized the importance of knowing when to phase out forks as features become more universally supported, helping keep code robust and manageable.
