Digital systems for demanding operational environments
Monad develops key digital systems for the aviation industry that support various aspects of air navigation services. We have designed and implemented solutions that improve weather data management, support air traffic controller training, and utilize artificial intelligence to optimize aircraft approach routing and decision-making. These innovations have a significant impact on aviation safety and operational efficiency.

How We Can Help
Data and Analytics
In aviation, both real-time and historical data are fundamental to safe and efficient operations. Monad designs systems that process and manage large volumes of aviation-related data, including traffic, weather and operational information, in a way that supports clarity, predictability and system-level visibility.
Our focus is not on collecting data for its own sake, but on ensuring that information is reliable, understandable and usable in demanding operational environments where decisions must be made with confidence.
User Experience (UX/UI)
User interfaces in aviation differ significantly from conventional software systems. Operators work with dense information, high responsibility and minimal tolerance for error. A limited visual area may represent hundreds of aircraft, interdependencies and time-critical decisions at once.
Monad designs user interfaces for control towers, approach and area control environments as well as training systems. Our work ensures that situational awareness remains intact, information is prioritised correctly and systems support operators under pressure without introducing unnecessary complexity or distraction.
Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important topic in aviation, but its use is subject to strict regulatory oversight and careful validation. In Europe, the aviation sector is regulated by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and the introduction of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, is governed by safety-driven regulatory frameworks.
At Monad, artificial intelligence is approached as a tool for research, development and evaluation rather than operational deployment. Machine learning is applied in controlled, non-operational contexts such as simulation, analysis, training and system development. These environments allow complex patterns to be explored, system behaviour to be evaluated and new concepts to be tested safely, in alignment with current EASA guidance and regulatory expectations.
Throughout this work, system behaviour remains understandable and traceable. Human responsibility and operational decision-making are never transferred to automated systems. Monad’s role is to build reliable digital systems that support safer development, training and assessment of aviation operations while respecting the current regulatory landscape and its limitations.

Aviation Industry
Our Approach in Aviation
Monad is committed to sustainable software development. In aviation, sustainability means building systems that are reliable, maintainable and appropriate for their purpose over long lifecycles.
We avoid unnecessary complexity and over-engineering, prioritise information security and ensure that systems can evolve as operational and regulatory requirements change. Our solutions are designed to function reliably within airport and air navigation environments, where systems are often deployed on-premises and must integrate seamlessly into existing operational ecosystems.
Aviation Industry
Simulation as a foundation for safe development
Simulation is a core element of Monad’s aviation expertise. It enables the development, testing and evaluation of systems without exposing live operations to risk.
Simulation environments are essential for developing and validating AI-supported functionality, testing complex interaction scenarios, supporting training and ensuring that system behaviour remains predictable under real-world conditions. Our experience spans both training-focused simulations and research-oriented environments used to explore future operational concepts.
Aviation Industry
Our Approach in Aviation
Monad is committed to sustainable software development. This principle guides all our solutions—we build systems that not only meet today’s challenges but are also designed to evolve with future demands.
In air navigation, this means creating optimized systems that reduce resource consumption and increase long-term process sustainability. We work closely with our clients throughout development to ensure every phase delivers real added value. The technologies we develop are durable, efficient, and reliable—even in critical environments.
Monad’s forward-looking perspective enables us to achieve things our industry hasn’t seen before.

Research and development: TADA
Monad is a partner in the European TADA (Terminal Airspace Digital Assistant) research project. The project explores how historical air traffic management data and machine learning can support air traffic controllers in busy terminal manoeuvring areas.
Monad’s role in TADA focuses on machine learning research, simulation and validation environments, and human-centred interface concepts for presenting system suggestions. TADA is a research and development initiative rather than a commercial product. Its purpose is to understand the possibilities and limitations of AI-supported decision support in aviation, without automating or replacing the controller’s role.

Training and learning platforms: Lektor
Together with Lektor, Monad has developed a browser-based air traffic controller training platform that combines theoretical learning with integrated simulation. The platform enables training to take place independent of time and location while maintaining realistic interaction, voice communication and domain-specific workflows.
Artificial intelligence is used to support speech recognition and simulation realism, not to assess or replace human judgement. The collaboration reflects Monad’s ability to design and implement learning environments tailored specifically for aviation professionals.
Our Experience
