Code of Monad
Our Ethical Principles
At Monad, we continuously strive to act more responsibly. We expect all our employees to familiarize themselves with our ethical principles and encourage them to report any concerns.
We are committed to doing the right thing, guided by both our strategy and values. Even small actions and words are meaningful and have an impact on the whole.
To support our values, we have compiled eleven ethical principles that concretize our value base. Implementing these principles means making the right choices in daily actions. We also encourage our stakeholders to become familiar with these principles. We are open to feedback and follow a principle of continuous improvement, thereby creating a better work community for everyone and realizing our value of responsibility.
These eleven ethical principles summarize Monad’s commitment to responsible and compliant business practices.
Respect for Human Rights
We are committed to respecting human rights. We recognize that our actions can promote human rights and that we have a duty to address any violations we observe.
Our employees must respect the human rights of colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders. Monad respects internationally recognized human rights as outlined in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the ILO’s core labor standards.
We are committed to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and expect the same from our business partners. We also ensure that our business does not involve child labor, forced labor, human trafficking, or any other form of modern slavery.
Employees are expected to consider human rights in their daily work, especially regarding:
- Occupational safety and well-being
- Fair terms of employment
- Prohibition of discrimination and harassment
- Prohibition of child and forced labor
- Freedom of association and collective bargaining
- Protection of privacy
Respect for the Environment
We are committed to respecting the environment. We recognize that even small everyday actions can directly and indirectly affect our carbon footprint. As a sustainable software development company, we aim to make ecologically sound choices in our client work as well.
Facilities
Our office promotes ecological practices through energy-saving features in equipment and motion-sensor lighting. The building’s solar panels provide 6% of its electricity consumption, and certified Finnish wind power is used.
The building supports waste sorting for common materials like mixed waste, plastic, cardboard, paper, and biowaste. We have our own sorting stations and ensure proper recycling of batteries, electronics, and hazardous waste.
The property owner is committed to reducing energy and water consumption and developing recycling and waste management.
Tools and Work
We aim to use durable and appropriate devices. When equipment fails, we prioritize repairs. Our leasing partners handle device reuse or proper recycling. We avoid unnecessary printing.
For work-related travel, we recommend using public transport whenever possible. We also offer local transport cards and a bicycle benefit. Remote and hybrid work is encouraged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency.
Occupational Safety and Well-being
A capable, motivated, and satisfied workforce is one of our success factors. At Monad, well-being and safety are integral to daily leadership, with a focus on prevention.
We are committed to providing safe and supportive working conditions and will take corrective actions if safety concerns arise. We support both the physical and mental well-being of our staff and provide practices to help maintain and improve it. Everyone is responsible for their own well-being.
Fair Terms of Employment
Monad supports the professional growth and success of all employees. We promote fair and competitive compensation to attract and retain top talent.
We respect all employment rights, including freedom of association and the right to organize. We do not employ underage workers as per legislation. Everyone at Monad has the right to express opinions and be heard.
Non-discrimination and Equal Opportunities
Everyone at Monad must foster a culture that respects diverse views, backgrounds, characteristics, and skills. Equal opportunities are important to us.
Recruitment and work practices are applied equally based on job requirements, skills, and performance.
We treat everyone fairly, equally, and respectfully. Discrimination is not tolerated, and we expect the same from our partners.
No one shall be discriminated against based on gender, pregnancy, age, origin, nationality, language, religion, beliefs, opinions, political activity, union membership, family relationships, sexual orientation, health, disability, or other personal characteristics, nor for part-time or temporary status.
A Workplace Free from Harassment and Inappropriate Conduct
We all share responsibility for a positive work environment. We treat each other respectfully and support one another as a team.
We do not tolerate any form of harassment, insults, bullying, intimidation, threats, abuse, violence, or inappropriate behavior. This includes verbal, physical, and visual forms. Harassment is defined by its impact, not intent.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Monad is committed to protecting and handling business-confidential information and personal data in accordance with good practices and laws.
We respect the right to privacy. Communication tools and channels must be used responsibly and not for fraudulent, offensive, or illegal purposes.
We all must ensure that third parties do not gain unauthorized access to confidential information. Information may only be used for lawful business purposes and as permitted by law. We expect our partners to follow the same principles.
Gifts and Hospitality
Gifts and hospitality may, in some cases, be a normal part of business relationships. According to Monad’s guidelines, acceptable gifts should be of nominal value, and hospitality should be moderate in value.
It is strictly forbidden to offer or accept gifts or hospitality that could influence, or appear to influence, decision-making. Such items can be seen as corruption or create conflicts of interest, especially with public officials.
Gifts and hospitality must comply with laws and have a valid business rationale. Transparency is key, and such actions must be proportionate to Monad’s business in that context. Cash or equivalent benefits are never allowed.
Anti-corruption and Prevention of Misconduct
We promote our business and growth through our own merits, not through illegal or unethical means. We do not accept corruption in any form.
Corruption includes inappropriate or illegal advantages in exchange for favors or influence. This may involve excessive fees, reimbursements, or improper donations or sponsorships. Gifts and hospitality can also be forms of corruption.
Bribery is the most common form of corruption. Monad personnel and representatives must never offer or accept benefits that aim to influence decisions or appear to do so.
All fraudulent behavior is prohibited. This includes falsification, unjustified claims, forged documents, and concealment of material facts. Employees must keep personal finances separate from company finances.
Accurate Financial Information and Anti-Money Laundering
All financial and non-financial information must be presented truthfully and transparently. Fraudulent activities include inaccurate transaction records and misleading reporting.
All financial data must be recorded accurately and promptly in accordance with laws and Monad’s financial reporting guidelines. Taxes and similar obligations must be reported and paid correctly and on time.
Monad complies with applicable anti-money laundering laws. Money laundering refers to concealing the origin of illegally obtained funds to make them appear legitimate.
Fair Competition
Monad’s business is based on fair competition. Competition laws prohibit anti-competitive agreements and practices. Monad and its personnel must not participate in cartels.
Non-public information may only be discussed with competitors within legal and daily business boundaries. We allow our customers and partners to compete freely.
Violations of competition law can harm Monad’s reputation and business and may lead to criminal penalties. We make pricing and other business decisions independently.
